Transform Oakland Streets
This page describes a potential new program to transform Oakland streets
How do we transform Oakland streets into vibrant public spaces? The Oakland Department of Transportation (OakDOT) is assessing community interest to develop a new program. This new program would integrate art into everyday infrastructure through projects like creative crosswalks and intersection paintings. Additionally the program would create new public spaces such as plazas and parklets.
This program would be community-led. Community members would develop, design, and maintain the public spaces and artful infrastructure. OakDOT would request applications from the community. If applications meet certain criteria OakDOT would permit improvements. Additionally, OakDOT would require community members to enter into a maintenance agreement with the City.
OakDOT is looking for community partners to help shape the program and is seeking feedback through this Request for Community Interest.
- OakDOT encourages potential applicants to respond to this Request by 5:00 p.m. (Pacific) on June 23, 2017
- Note that not responding to this Request does not prevent a future application
