City Agrees to Mediation with SEIU; SEIU Continues Strike through Monday

On the fifth day of its labor strike, today Service Employees International Union, Local 1021 notified the City that it has agreed to the City’s request for mediation with a mediator selected by SEIU.
Although the City has agreed to attend mediation on Monday with SEIU’s chosen mediator, SEIU informed the City this afternoon that it has decided to continue its strike tomorrow, Monday, and “until further notice.”

Oakland’s Minimum Wage Goes Up January 1, 2018

Oakland’s Measure FF, a voter-enacted ballot measure passed in November 2014, provides annual increases to Oakland’s Minimum Wage based on the local Consumer Price Index (CPI). Effective January 1, 2018, the rate rises 37¢, from $12.86 to $13.23 per hour. The law also requires that employers inform employees of the increase by December 15, 2017. To assist employers, the City of Oakland has posted notification posters at oaklandnet.com/minimumwage.

On Thursday, November 9, 2017, the Oakland Police
Department Alcoholic Beverage Action Team (ABAT) and agents of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) posted a 20-day to Indefinite Notice of Suspension at “Sportspage Bar,” an ABC-licensed business located in the 10000 block of Macarthur Blvd in Oakland. During the 20-day
suspension, the owner will not be able to sell any alcohol at the location.
